The Mumbai terror attacks that shocked the entire nation last year also inspired the "value of togetherness" among Indians, sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan (pictured left) said in Kolkata on Tuesday (Feb 10).

"What happened in Mumbai on November 26, 2008, shocked the whole world. After this incident everyone realised the value of togetherness, peace and united action," Khan told reporters.

The sarod maestro was in the town for a concert "Samaagam" (confluence) where he will be collaborating with Scottish Chamber Orchestra (SCO) - Scotland's national orchestra.

The concert begins in Kolkata on Wednesday. The "Samaagam" was first performed in London in June 2008. India is the second country where the tour began in Mumbai on Feb 8 and will also travel to Hyderabad, on Feb 13, Bangalore, on Feb 16, Chandigarh on Feb 18 and finally in Delhi, on Feb 20.

"As the name suggests, this concert is going to be a confluence of Eastern and European classical music. Music acts as an effective medium to spread peace and harmony... and this is my way of supporting my countrymen," Khan said.

The concert will begin with classic pieces of Mozart and Beethoven, followed by Khan's solo performance, finally ending with a 45-minute fusion of the eastern and western classical music.
